Roxor Games and the The Illini Union Rec Room in Champaign, IL will host a Summer ITG tournament on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 3pm. Admission will be just $7!
Rules:
1. Standard sportsmanship/ettiquitte rules apply. See previous DDRillini tournament rules for more details.
2. For rounds early in the tournament: all players play one song, which is randomly selected from all Expert 9-10 songs. All players play the same song, in reverse score order from the previous round (whoever had the lowest percentage goes first). Whoever attains the lowest score on the song is eliminated and everyone else advances to the next round. When 8 players remain, the difficulty caps change to Expert 9-11. This process continues until five players remain.
3. When five players are left, all players play two songs, which are randomly selected from all Expert 10-12 songs. All players play the same songs, in reverse score order from the previous round (whoever had the lowest percentage goes first). The combined score on these two songs is used to determine which players advance to the next round, in the same way as before, until two players remain.
4. When two players are left, these players play a best two of three song match. The player who scored better in the previous round will have the option of picking the first or second song (difficulty limit 10-13 Expert). The third song, if necessary, will be a random Expert 11-13 song.
5. Players may select whatever non-DQ mods they like at any time.
6. Prizemoney will probably be winner-take-all or 65/35 1st/2nd.
7. If less than 6 people show up for the tournament, we'll do a Round Robin format instead. In this case, all songs for all matches will be randomly selected Expert 9-11 songs, except the last two rounds which will be Expert 10-12 songs. The top 3 players will advance to a Stepladder finals, where 3 plays 2 in a best two-of-three match, then the winner plays 1 in a best two-of-three match for the championship. Songs chosen for this match will be Expert 10-13 songs.
Additional rules:
8.1 "Too Fast Rule" Any player who, upon completion of the song, presses the green button before the scores can be written down will be Disqualified. Don't press the green button until we say you can.
8.2 "Vertex Whoring Rule" For the songs Vertex and Vertex^2, if a player chooses speed/scroll mods of x2 Overhead or faster, that player must also use the mod Mirror, or play the song by themselves (at the discretion of the Tournament Committee). The player may elect to change his or her speed mods to something slower at no penalty.
---------------------------------------
There will be a Sight Reading competition also during this tournament. Entry into the Sight Reading competition will be $3. Rules are as follows:
Two songs will be available for the player to choose from to sightread. One is of 9 difficulty and one is of 11 difficulty. Players may choose to play either song (but not both), but players who choose the 9 difficulty song will receive a 5% handicap, meaning that 5% will be subtracted from their gross score.
The steps used will be steps to a song that is currently in the ITG1 or ITG2 songlist (no hacked song will be used). I will write both sets of steps. Competitors will also be made aware of the song stats (# of steps, holds, mines, hands, jumps, rolls) immediately before they play the song. No other information about the song will be divulged at any time prior to the competition. Both sets of steps are written for the same song.
All entrants into the sightreading competition will be required to leave the Rec Room (sit in the food court by Sbarros) while they wait for their turn to play the sightreading song. Players will make no effort to obtain information about the sightreading song or its steps before s/he plays the song, at a penalty of disqualification. Players will be called in two at a time as their turn comes up. Players playing the 9 difficulty song will go first.
---------------------------------------
There will also be a raffle held at the end of proceedings for the Roxor sponsored merchandise and other assorted goodies. All entrants will receive one raffle ticket (possibly more if there are a lot of goodies).
For more information and discussion of the tournament, check out the forums at http://www.ddrillini.com, the official website for DDRillini and the dance game scene in Champaign/Urbana, IL.

Would people be interested in a separate sightreading contest (using an edit I write for an existing ITG chart)? The contest would have its own entry fee and prize pool.

Alright, here's the deal. I've thought about this a bunch, and this is how it's gonna go down:
(1) There will be a Sight Reading competition also during this tournament. Entry into the Sight Reading competition will be $3. See the root of this thread for rules concerning the Sight Reading contest.
(2) The Entry fee for the Main Event is going up to $7, to offset an anticipated greater number of entrants (which requires more machine rental time), and to offset a format change (see below).
(3) The Main Event will now be a Round Robin event IF 10 or less people sign up for the tournament. If 11 or more people sign up, we'll do the "loser-goes-home" format as I outlined before. A Round Robin with more than 10 people is just a pain in the buttocks and will take forever.

Sounds cool, especially the sight-reading tourny. I don't think I'll be able to make it, though... We'll have to see...

Deplorable news!
I don't think I'll be able to make it since my parents are going on some thing and I have to watch the house. However, you're free to print out pictures of my face and tape them to the machine.
